2002 Bali bombings (also
called the Bali Bombing) is a series of three bombings that occurred on the
evening of October 12, 2002. Two first explosion occurred at Paddy's Pub and
the Sari Club (SC) on Jalan Legian, Kuta, Bali, while the last outbreak occurred
near the U.S. Consulate office, even though it is quite far apart. The series
of bombings this is the first bombing was followed by bombings in a much
smaller scale are also held in Bali in 2005. Recorded 202 fatalities and 209
wounded or injured, most of the victims were foreign tourists who are visiting
the site a tourist spot.
Bali Blast Monument,
also known as Ground Zero and is located on Jalan Legian, Kuta which is an area

Monument "Ground
Zero" is a monument built to commemorate the 202 victims of a bomb blast
at the Sari Club and Paddy's Cafe in Jalan Legian, October 12, 2002. Monument
was begun on the idea Nyoman Rudana (Chairman of PRINCESS Association Tourist
Attraction Indonesia Bali), recommending that established a monument to the
bombing site (known as the location of "Ground Zero"). After the
bombing, start the monument was built and completed in 2003 with the given name
"Monument of Five Continents". A year later, the monument is
inaugurated on October 12, 2004 by Chief Regent of Badung, Anak Agung Ngurah
Oka Ratmadi to be named "Humanitarian Bombing Tragedy Memorial October 12,
2002".

the inauguration, which was held on October 8, Hindu rituals (ceremonies mecaru
and Melaspas) which aims to cleanse and purify. The ceremony took place at the
site of the bombing (Ground Zero) that lies between the Sari Club and Paddy's
Pub on Legian Street, Kuta. The ceremony was led by two Hindu priests, namely
Ida Rauh Gede Putra Telapah and Ida Rauh Ketut Gede Buddhist Encyclopedia. Also
attending Head Regent of Badung, Anak Agung Ngurah Oka Ratmadi, along with
community leaders Kuta. The ceremony got the attention of the people of Kuta
and tourists who happened to pass through the monument.
Bali bombings occurred
exactly 1 year, 1 month and 1 day after the 11 September 2001 terrorist
attacks, the World Trade Center towers in New York, United States. Bali Bombing
occurred on the evening of October 12, 2002 in Jalan Legian, Kuta sub district
with killing 202 people and injuring 209 people, mostly foreign tourists. The
incident is the most serious terrorist incident in Indonesian history. Some
Indonesian people have been sentenced to death for their roles in the bombing.
It is unfortunate that the alleged offender Abu Bakir Bashir, who is suspected
as one of those involved in leading the bombing, was found not guilty in March
2005 over the bombing conspiracy, and convicted only for immigration
violations.

(sentenced to death), Ali Imron alias Alik, (indicted for life), Amrozi bin
Nurhasyim aka Amrozi (sentenced to death), Andi Hidayat (Attacking group), Andi
Oktavia (Attacking group), Arnasan aka Jimi (killed), Bambang Setiono (Solo
group), Budi Wibowo (Solo group), Dr. Azahari aka Alan (killed in a police raid
in Batu, Malang, November 9, 2005), Dulmatin (died March 9, 2010), Feri alias
Isa (passed away), Herlambang (Solo group), Hernianto (Solo group), Idris alias
Johni Hendrawan, Junaedi (Attacking group), Makmuri (Solo group), Mohammad
Musafak (Solo group), Mohammad Najib Nawawi (Solo group), Small Umar Patek
alias, Utomo Pamungkas Mubarok alias (indicted for life), and Zulkarnain.
The nationality of the
victims based on the following data: Australia 88, Indonesia 38 people (mostly
residents of Bali), English 26, U.S. 7, Germany 6 people, 5 Sweden, the
Netherlands 4, France 4, Denmark 3, New Zealand 3, Switzerland 3, Brazil 2,
Canada 2, Japan 2, South Africa 2, South Korea 2, Ecuador 1, Greece 1, Italy 1,
Poland 1, Portugal 1 , and Taiwan 1.
